2/25/08 WCSL client, friend &
inspiration Larry Norman, has died
By WCSL CEO Paul Doty
When I look at my career and the many
influences that have brought me to the place I am today, Larry Norman ranks
at the top.
Larry was one of my greatest influences in the beginning of my career as a
Christian engineer with groups like Athanasia, Bloodgood, & Barren Cross,
and as a professional sound company owner, as I engineered front of house
sound for Larry on numerous occasions. These photos were taken at our
final show together in 2001 in San Francisco. Larry was known as "The
father of Christian Rock". He was the individual that taught me by
example that being an individual and a rebel was a good thing, If you did it
for the right reasons. Larry will be missed and remembered by his
peers in the industry. Earth's loss is truly heaven's gain, for after
all, Larry was only visiting this planet.

wcsl.org celebrates a decade on the web
wcsl.org
celebrates it's ten year anniversary this month. The website first
went live in 1998, letting WCSL become one of the earliest production
companies to have a presence on the web. So early in fact, the company
was able to secure a four letter URL. The original website was of
course unrecognizable compared with today's wcsl.org. The site has
undergone 4 major rebuilds over the past decade to what it has become today.
In 2008 the site presses forward with new technologies like it's own weekly
podcast and live news feeds from outside
content providers. The staff of WCSL would like to thank everyone who
has browsed the pages of wcsl.org over the years, and we look forward to the
next decade on the world wide web.

1/27/08 WCSL friend Donelle Page
goes home to be with the Lord
This
past Saturday we said goodbye and celebrated the life of our dear friend
Donelle Page. I knew Donelle first on a professional level for about
ten years, then as a friend for another ten. Those who knew and loved
Donelle knew that she was an individual that marched to the beat of a
different drummer. When she traded in her body that failed her last Tuesday
for one that never will, I'm sure her first question was "We get a harp here
right? Where's the harps?" In the unlikely event the answer was
no, she would have said "Oh you gotta be kidding me" and then would have
gone to work on fixing the problem. Whether behind a harp, or a keyboard,
Donelle was a professional. She was also a great teacher and friend.
Her only greater passion in life than her family, friends, and her music,
was her love for her Lord. She left us all with the unquestionable
knowledge of where she is now, and along with a lifetime of memories, that
was the greatest gift for us all.
-Paul Doty

11/27/07 WCSL client Kevin DuBrow, dead at
52
Kevin
DuBrow, best known for fronting the 80's heavy metal band "Quiet Riot" died
yesterday at his home in Las Vegas. The cause of the death remains the
subject of investigation. WCSL CEO Paul Doty had this to say Tuesday on
Kevin's passing; "Out of all the national acts I've mixed front of house
sound for over the last three decades, Kevin was one of the most colorful
characters I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Over a twenty
year span from the 80's to the 90's I mixed FOH sound for Quit Riot on a
number of occasions. I remember the first meeting with Kevin in
Turlock at "The Club" the first time they played there. Kevin had a
reputation in the industry at that time of being very hard to please, a bit
of a butt to engineers and crew. On our first meeting, Kevin walked
out to the FOH console with me and said "Let's hear your drums". I
dialed up kick, snare, and hi hat through the system and Kevin stopped me.
He then said "Bro, if you can dial our drums like that, I know everything
else is going to be just fine between you and me" And it always was.
Years could go by between gigs and Kevin always called me by name when he
walked into a venue." Quiet Riot is credited with helping start the
1980s glam-metal scene and is probably best known for its take on Slade’s
“Cum On Feel the Noize,” which appeared on “Metal Health” (1983) and
eventually spent two weeks at No. 5 on Billboard’s list of hits. The album
sold more than 4 million copies and is considered by many to be the first
heavy-metal record to climb high in the pop charts. “Although bands
such as Motley Crue get the lion’s share of credit for popularizing pop
metal in the 1980s, the first band of the genre to break through to a
massive audience was Quiet Riot,”
Billboard.com said yesterday.
11/21/07 Morning fire guts IHOP by WCSL

A morning fire gutted the IHOP by WCSL in Modesto on
Wednesday morning. The 3 alarm blaze snarled traffic on nearby
Briggsmore/Cappenter overpass for hours as many of the areas streets had to
be shut down in order to fight the blaze. The IHOP had been an early
morning tradition for WCSL owner's and employee's after night long shows.
It was also a popular place for business lunches with reps and clients.
Cause of the blaze at this time is unknown.
